Goddess Yellamma is also known as Renuka. She is the most famous hindu goddess in southern states of India. According to Hindu mythology, Parashurama is the sixth avatar of lord Vishnu. One day, as per the advice of Agastya, the father of Parashurama- Parashurama cutted down his own mother’s head and the women who supported her. Later, he requested his father to give life to both. He forgave and asked him to attach the head. By mistake, he had attached his mother’s head with another woman's body. Later, people started worshipping the women with Rehuka Devi’s head as Yellamma.

One of the famous Renuka Yellamma temple is located in Hyderabad, People have a belief that the well water inside that temple will heal all ills. So, they are also taking baths to cleanse all skin diseases and disorders.

In honour of Goddess Yellamma, Shri Yellamma Devi Fair is held in karnataka as one of the most important fairs. It is celebrated between October- February. Since the full moon day holds an important place, it is considered to be highly auspicious and sacred to celebrate the fair that day. People from other neighbouring states like Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh visit the fair to celebrate this religious festival. It is an amazing festival which is celebrated about 5 times a year on the full moon day of Margasira.

We can have the picture of yellamma at our home to have a healthy life. And we can do rituals during poornima. You can gift the yellamma painting for any special occasions to share your wishes and blessings.
